Fiddle player Gjermund Larsen and his trio represent the pinnacle of Norwegian folk music and this 'mini' album offers a cross-section of their artistic output to date. It compiles six of the finest tracks from three albums at a budget-price.

Blurring the lines between folk, jazz and classical music, the melodies and the arrangements are elegant, delighting in colour and space, and the perfect starting point for listeners who have not yet discovered Larsen and his incredible trio.

Born in 1981, the son of folk musician Geir Egil Larsen, Gjermund studied at the Ole Bull Academy and at the Norwegian State Academy. He first recorded in a duo with his brother and formed the Gjermund Larsen Trio in 2005 with Andreas Utnem on harmonium and Sondre Meisfjord on double bass. Larsen is also a member of the ensembles Majorstuen, Frigg, Ragnhild, the Furebotten Trio and the Christian Wallumrd Ensemble.

Anyone that can write music as haunting and beautiful...has the world at his feet. - Jon Lusk, Songlines

A very fine album indeed...All his own compositions, they remain distinctively Scandinavian sounding with ringing double-stopping and singing tone, projected with great poise and heart. - Jim Gilchrist, The Scotsman
