Ghost Train is a significant step forward for the Hot Club Of Cowtown. Whit Smith (guitar) and Elana Fremerman (violin) along with new bass player Jake Erwin, have broadened their scope with their fourth release for HighTone Records. Original songs now dominate, and their sound (once described as a hybrid of Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt) is now more complex and much more unique to these extraordinary musicians. The majority of the songs on Ghost Train are Whit and Elana originals, and they show a new maturity in subject matter and range of influences. The covers range from Rogers & Hart (You Took Advantage Of Me) to the traditional fiddle tunes Cherokee Shuffle to the amazing version of Aerosmith's Chip Away The Stone. Another highlight is the traditional gypsy number Fuli Tschai. Produced by Gurf Morlix, he's helped the Hot Club Of Cowtown come up with a sonically and musically sophisticated album.
