'Divas' showcases vocalist Tina May, who's been at the forefront of jazz singing in the UK for some time, in many moods with varied backings, from a mid-sized swing big band to solo piano with some of London's finest jazzers.
Most of the songs allude to specific performers from the golden age of vocal jazz such as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Kay Starr, Lotte Lenya, Helen Merrill and Edith Piaf while a couple simply stand on their own as wonderful songs.
Arrangements are by Frank Griffith, Adrian Fry and John Pearce and backing Tina are some of the UK's finest musicians including Frank Griffith on clarinet and tenor sax, Dave Cliff on guitar, John Pearce on piano, Andy Cleyndert on bass and Bobby Worth on drums.
