This debut album from trumpeter/composer Gabriel Garrick's Quintet mainly features self-penned original compositions plus an arrangement of You Don't Know What Love Is and a duet performance of the tune Blind Faith that was written for Gabriel by his late father, the pianist Michael Garrick.
'Sunlight' is the product of a five-year long process of music making, writing and performing. The music has been served by and owes a debt of gratitude to a number of individuals who have helped shape it through many live situations. These, of course, include Gabriel's father Michael, who was a great educator as well as being a superb musician and composer.
Confirms Gabriel Garrick as a soloist of genuine quality and a composer of real worth...There's a nice Blue Note feel on 'Insurance Blues', the groove solid, with Walker building well in early-Coltrane style. Plenty here to enjoy: go, Gabriel! - Peter Vacher, Jazzwise
