Harry Gold died in November 2005 having started playing professionally in 1921. In his remarkable career (he continued playing until very recently) he worked in the bands of Joe Loss, Oscar Rabin, Mantovani, Geraldo and Roy Fox. He was a noted arranger and was musical director for Radio Luxembourg. The Pieces of Eight was formed in the late 1930s and, apart from a brief period, played continuously into the 1990s. Our previous release (Live In Leipzig) has remained in the catalogue in LP and CD form since its release in 1985 and continues to sell steadily. This release comprises a 'live' LP from 1989 plus four previously unreleased tracks from 1991. On its original release Jazz Journal suggested to its readers that if you're given a chance to listen to this LP don't let it pass you by!. Obituaries appeared in all the major newspapers and jazz magzines and this caused a surge of interest in as it was the only recording available.
