Leading British Jazz musician Chris Barber has long felt that the best way to learn about the music was to play with some of the Jazz greats. Accordingly, over the years he has organised concerts and tours and this double-for-the-price-of-one package sees three legendary Jazz clarinetists playing with Chris and his band.The visiting American musicians are Edmond Hall (played with Louis Armstrong, Red Allen, Teddy Wilson, Eddie Condon), Albert Nicholas (played with King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Luis Russell) and Joe Darensbourg (played with Kid Ory, Louis Armstrong, and led his own band The Dixie Flyers). This CD set contains many previously unissued recordings plus eight tracks by Chris Barber's American Jazz Band, which features another leading player, trumpeter Sidney de Paris. Chris Barber at 82 is still at the forefront of British Jazz and the LAKE Records catalogue has the largest collection of his CDs.
