Jacques Coursil, trumpeter and star composer of the New York Free Jazz scene of the 1960s, interrupted his career for more than 40 years to devote himself to the philosophy of mathematics and Creole literature. He returned to the musical scene in 2007, with the album Clameurs that combines years of underground musical work with his pronounced taste for the works of great authors on ngritude. For the first time, a film retraces the life and career of this famous musician. But this is not an autobiographical film, which would clearly be too reductive, but instead, an impressionistic approach to this highly complex character. In the manner of his music, the atmosphere of the sequences, like juxtaposed photograms, suggest to us the Jacques Coursil of today. His personality is revealed in work with young musicians, as a duo with Archie Shepp or during interviews or moments of musical improvisation.
