'Beauteous Tales and Offbeat Stories', the second album by Finland based Kari Ikonen Trio, thrives on the magic of contrasts. The trio is made up of award-winning pianist Kari Ikonen, ECM Records recording artist Markku Ounaskari on drums and Armenian bass player Ara Yaralyan.

The album combines a selection of artful original compositions, a Bollywood hit and an Armenian love song but the trio also recorded a number of free improvisational pieces created in the studio without rehearsal. By taking a risk like this the trio manages to energetically capture their exceptional dynamic and creativity onto a record.
