Niels Vincentz - Gravity

Renowned Danish saxophonist Niels Vincentz and his trio set out in open terrain on Gravity, their second recording for SteepleChase. Inspired by the great pianoless jazz groups (Gerry Mulligan, Sonny Rollins, Steve Lacy, Ornette Coleman), Vincentz is joined in his venture by two top drawer musicians - bassist Cameron Brown and drummer Billy Hart.

Vincentz got together with Brown and Hart in the late 1990's and they struck up an immediate rapport demonstrated with aplomb on this nine track set. Featuring music composed by the leader and bassist, the group also reworks two expressive songs by Jimmy Van Heusen (Nancy With The Laughing Face, It Could Happen To You) which lend themselves to performance without a chordal instrument.
