Doc Watson - Doc Watson At Gerdes Folk City

This is a document of the birth of the legend known as Doc Watson. Before his triumphant appearences at the 1963 and 1964 Newport Folk Festivals and before his acclaimed self-titled album on Vanguard Records, Doc was invited to perform at Gerdes Folk City. These recordings are taken from those shows and all tracks are previously unreleased. Highlights include guest artists The Greenbriar Boys, and Doc taking a rare turn on the mandolin. This recording should be considered essential Doc Watson. Traditional bluegrass, folk and American music in general continues to feel the shockwaves started by Doc at these landmark concerts.
