The British saxophonist/composer John Williams's previous recording for Spotlite featured his Baritone Band, with its front line of four baritone saxophones. Now it's the turn of the tenor saxophone!

This recording features two versions of his Tenorama, one focusing on players from an earlier era - Don Rendell, Dave Gelly and Phil Day - and one focusing on the younger generation - Renato D'Aiello and Karen Sharp. With some additional musicians, including Steve Waterman on trumpet and Williams himself on reeds, and some extremely imaginative writing, Williams achieves some fascinating tonal effects and textures.

Personnel: John Williams (tenor, baritone saxes, recorder, bass clarinet) with: Dave Gelly, Don Rendell, Renato D'Aiello, Karen Sharp, Bob Sydor, Phil Day (tenor saxophone), Steve Waterman (trumpet), John Horler, Mark Latimer (piano), Trevor Tomkins, Asaf Sirkis (drums), Jim Richardson, Mario Castronari (bass)
