With this release Steve Ashley created a remarkable album of English contemporary songs which are informed, but never overwhelmed by the tradition; a very special evocation of English culture. Steve Ashley is one of England's finest singer/songwriters. He belongs to that select band whose small but august number include John Tams, Lal Waterson and Richard Thompson. His history goes right back to the early 1970s when he was an original member of The Albion Country Band. His 1974 album Stroll On was awarded the Contemporary Folk album of the year by Folk Review. Everyday Lives was Steve's first new album for almost 10 years, harking back to the concerns that so infused his early work the politics of family life and love, the enviroment and most of all the changing seasons all characterised by his distinctive view of English life. With Danny Thompson, Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Robin Williamson, Gerry Conway. Steve Ashley celebrates his 60th birthday in March with a spectacular concert featuring among others Simon Nichol, Dave Pegg & Chris Leslie of Fairport Convention plus an orchestra conducted by Robert Kirby, the original arranger for Nick Drake, Sandy Denny etc. Such an amazing line-up is sure to bring great media attention and boost interest in this mid-price re-release of Steve's most recent album.
