The release of The Moken - Sea Gypsies of the Andaman Sea continues the successful collaboration between Topic Records and The National Sound Archive of The British Library.The Moken are one of a small number of tribes of sea gypsies who have been sailing up and down the west coast of the Malay Peninsula for hundreds of years. This recording was made on a deserted beach between surf and jungle and the music is wild and unpredictable, full of warmth and drama and yet as detached from our world as their hard, uncertain sea-faring lifestyle.
