This CD marks a landmark in jazz history, documenting the first time a British jazz musician recorded with American musicians in an informal setting. The 13 tracks of the first session were cut privately at the Baldwin Company's midtown studios, on the initiative of Vic Lewis, who was visiting the US at the time and pre-date the only other Anglo-American sessions of the period by some two years, capturing some of the ambience that existed on 52nd Street at the time. The remaining tracks on this album date from 1944 when a reciprocal session was organised in London featuring several of Vic's friends from his first visit to the States. All of these cuts have been lovingly remastered in digital sound from the original acetate recordings to the highest standard possible.
