Jyotsna Srikanth - Bangalore Dreams

On 'Bangalore Dreams' Jyotsna Srikanth's sonorous violin sings out the vivid melodies and redolent ragas of her Bangalore homeland twisted through with jazz.

'Bangalore Dreams' is Jyotsna's meditations on a theme of encounters; east meets west, ornamentation meets groove, India meets jazz. Jyotsna's distinctive approach to harmony pays deep respect to the ancient Carnatic tradition whilst curling in at the sides to softly accommodate traditional jazz changes.

'Bangalore Dreams' is scored for violin, electric keys, bass guitar, drum set and Indian percussion. Jyotsna's fiddle leads the way, her tone caramel-sweet, rich and honeyed yet earthen-toned, marked and lined with a grainy, echoing ochre at once. The album was recorded in India at Bangalore's, Aravind Studios retaining in its sound an authentic Carnatic colour and hue.
